Dr. Békés studied clinical psychology and philosophy at Eötvös Lóránt University (Budapest) and received her PhD in psychoanalysis from the University of Pécs (Hungary). She completed her postdoctoral training at McGill University and the Université du Québec à Montréal. She worked in the psychiatric departments of the Jewish General Hospital (Montreal) and Kútvölgyi Hospital (Budapest).

She researches the practical application of transgenerational trauma theory and develops tools for its assessment. Her seminal work, “Historical intergenerational trauma transmission model: A comprehensive framework,” became the theoretical basis for the development of HITT-Q.
